PSBN John Edmiston - School Owner and Senior Instructor

Pu Sa Bum Nim (PSBN) John is the Principle instructor for Kuk Sool Won of Livingston. He began studying Kuk Sool at the age of 15 as he was already a very keen sportsperson and was attracted to the high energy classes and the diversity of training. He has now been training at an accomplished level for 12 years and in 2004 won overall European Grand Champion. John's other Kuk Sool achievements include winning Scottish, British and Dutch individual championships and he is particularly proud to have lead his students to take both Scottish and British School titles during 2008.

PSBN John has become a dedicated and disciplined individual through his passion for Kuk Sool, but he remains a very relaxed, friendly and genuine character. He is highly competitive, always striving to be the best he can be, and to help and support his students to do the same.

PSBN John believes that Kuk Sool is very much a family orientated martial art. He joined after hearing about it from his sisters, Kyo Sa Nim (KSN) Julie & Joanne, who had recently started training and are now both black belts. PSBN John's brother-in-law, KSN Graham, is the class senior instructor and he met his girlfriend of 7 yrs, Jyo Kyo Nim (JKN) Abi at the class. Abi's sister Tammy and her husband Craig are also Black belts. This friendly family atmosphere continues to attract other families and friends to train with Livingston KSW.

As a fully qualified fitness instructor with a BSC in Sport and Exercise Science, PSBN John also works as a physiotherapy technician with Spire, and as a freelance fitness instructor. This includes personal training, gym work, group fitness classes with adults, and children's break-dancing classes.

John hopes to welcome you to a beginner class soon.

KSN Graham Philp

Kyo Sa Nim (KSN) Graham is the senior instructor for Kuk Sool Won of Livingston. He began training in Kuk Sool in 1994 at the age of 19. Although he had previously studied other martial arts he was interested in finding a more comprehensive martial art system. Ever since then, Kuk Sool Won has become an integral part of his daily life. KSN Graham has been successful at tournaments winning medals in numerous disciplines but was especially proud this year (2008) when the school secured its position as one of the best in the UK by securing both Scottish and British championships.

KSN Graham is a friendly and highly motivational instructor who in conjunction with PSBN John and the other black belts, strives to create an excellent training environment ensuring every student achieves their maximum potential. KSN Graham has a particular passion for teaching the many self defence techniques of Kuk Sool.

Kuk Sool is often described as a family martial art and this is certainly evident at Livingston school. When KSN Graham was a red belt, his now wife KSN Julie joined the class as a beginner and in turn he met her brother PSBN John who was soon persuaded to also start his Kuk Sool training.

KSN Graham currently works for the Scottish Government.

Graham hopes to see you soon at a beginner's class.

KSN Julie Edmiston-Philp

Kyo Sa Nim (KSN) Julie is a senior instructor for Kuk Sool Won of Livingston. She began training in Kuk Sool in 1996 at the age of 18. She wanted to try something different to get fit, and was encouraged by the large amount of girls training in Kuk Sool.

Julie gained her black belt in 2000 is now a highly energetic and motivational instructor and is certainly an inspiration and role model for all of the female students in the class (and the men!).

Julie has been very successful at tournaments winning medals in numerous disciplines and achieving overall Scottish Grand Champion in 2007. She was also especially proud this year (2008) when the school secured its position as best in the UK by securing both Scottish and British championships.

Kuk Sool is often described as a family martial art and this is certainly evident at Livingston school; Julie is married to KSN Graham and PSBN John is her brother.
